“Electric Ribbon Tunnel” by Culture Creative, The Mesmerizing “Sea of Light” by UK artist Ithaca

The Chicago Botanic Garden enchants visitors with its annual holiday display, Lightscape, featuring a stunning array of lights and music. Families, including multigenerational households, flock to the garden in Glencoe, near Chicago, to experience the 1.3-mile journey through beautifully illuminated gardens.

Lightscape boasts over 22 light installations created by both local and international artists, guiding visitors through the heart of the garden’s expansive 385 acres. Notable highlights include the “Electric Ribbon Tunnel” by Culture Creative, the mesmerizing “Sea of Light” by UK artist Ithaca with 4,800 individually controlled LED light balls, and “Lilies” by UK artist Jigantics, showcasing 22 illuminated 5-foot lilies that grace the Great Basin.

The enchanting “Laser Lake” projects a rainbow of dancing lights across the Great Basin, while the crowd-favorite “Winter Cathedral” features a stunning cathedral window arch adorned with 100,000 lights, extending along a 110-foot tunnel at the journey’s end. This immersive Lightscape experience transforms the Chicago Botanic Garden into a festive wonderland, captivating visitors with its magical ambiance and artful light displays. The combination of nature, art, and lights creates a joyful and unforgettable holiday spectacle for all who attend.
